THREE parts of Worcestershire are going to be pilot areas for a new relaxed council policy on signage, it has emerged.

Evesham, Broadway and Redditch will be the first places to get new signs for tourist landmarks, attractions and private companies.

Rules are being relaxed after many businesses said they were suffering from a lack of exposure and the poor economy. The county council wants to make sure the top 70 private organisations are signposted, as well as all clusters of six or more traders in one area, such as craft centres.

More businesses will also be encouraged to ask for a sign at the nearest main road.

Councillor John Smith, the cabinet member responsible for highways, said: β€œIt’s a delicate balance getting this right as we need to make sure we promote the county, while not adding to street clutter.”
