CYCLISTS took to the hills around Honeybourne for the first meeting of a new Olympic-inspired group.

The Honeybourne Bicycle Users Group (H-BUG) is the brainchild of Steve Bullen who hopes to create a cycling and walking hub to attract visitors from around the country. The keen cyclist said the success of British riders in the Olympic Games and Tour de France had led to a surge in people looking to get on their bikes.

Mr Bullen said: “I think there is a definite surge because of the Olympics.

Now people are celebrating cycling. Saturday was a wet and muddy affair but I was delighted that 26 cyclists aged between five and 70 turned up.”

The next step in Mr Bullen’s plans is to convert a country lane into a designated Quiet Lane where people can feel safe cycling.

The next H-BUG event will be a road cycle leaving Honeybourne Village Hall at 10am on Saturday.
