A MORETON man is taking a well-earned rest after completing a staggering world record.

Steve Edwards, who turns 50 today, completed his amazing lifelong dream on Sunday, November 11 – to run 500 marathons in under three-and-a-half hours.

The grandfather-of-three who works at Campden BRI, has been enjoying a week off from his gruelling training schedule, after running marathons for the last 24 years.

But after celebrating his birthday early on Sunday with family and friends, he is showing no signs of slowing down and even ran another marathon last week in Luton.

“I had already entered it just in case it went wrong on the 11th,” he said.

“It was hard to get up in the morning.

“Having a week off was a real challenge. I’ve missed it but it’s given me a chance to think what next.

“It’s been well worth it just for the experience and to be able to inspire people.

“Having a break from it has let me have the opportunity to think it’s actually something I want to keep on doing.

“I’ve run 578 – another 22 and I will be at the 600.

That’s my next goal.

“I’m hoping to continue to run as best as I can and try and improve the number of sub 3.30 marathons. It’s part of my life.”
