THE family of a Shipston man who was attacked outside a nightclub are keeping a bedside vigil as he fights for his life in hospital.

Simon Warren, aged 20, was outside Moo Moo’s in Cheltenham on November 13 when he was assaulted and left with serious head injuries.

The former Shipston High School pupil, who has been described as a “model student”, is currently in a critical but stable condition in Frenchay Hospital in Bristol.

Messages of support have been left on his Facebook profile and his family have been updating the social media site with his progress.

A post yesterday said: “Si had a very quiet day yesterday.

“They tell us he’s doing OK but he’s still very poorly.

Just hope today brings a change for the better love you Si x.”

An earlier update reported that Simon had opened his eyes, bringing his family ‘tears of joy’. “Si has now been on life support for a week...a couple of times we saw those lovely blue eyes I cannot put into words how that felt. Hopefully we will get to see those eyes again everyone is willing u on xxxx.”

Shipston High School headteacher Jonathan Baker said the thoughts of staff were with Simon and his family.

He added: “He was an excellent student. He was always co-operative and willing and worked hard. In many ways he was a model student and always very good humoured. We were all shocked and alarmed by what happened.”

Claire Weir, store manager of Tesco in Birmingham Road, Stratford, where Jonathan worked, said: “Simon is a very popular colleague and our thoughts are with him and his family at this time.”

􀁥 Thomas James Barry, aged 18, of Evenlode Road, Moreton, has been charged with causing grievous bodily harm with intent following an incident outside Moo Moo’s nightclub at about 2.30am on Tuesday, November 13. He has been bailed to appear at Cheltenham Magistrates Court on Thursday, December 20
