THE Blockley shop committee has been given a further fund-raising boost after the village’s charity ball proved another big success.
The event in May this year raised £16,800, bringing the total raised for good causes in the past four years to £58,000.
Ball organisers have now donated £4,900 to the Blockley Shop committee who have been busy raising funds to build a new shop and café next door to the current premises.
Money from the ball will also go towards extra curriculum items and activities for the children of Blockley School, the Meningitis Trust and for equipment at the North Cotswold Hospital in Moreton.
Nearly 290 guests enjoyed this year’s circus-themed event which included a slack rope artist, fire and jugglers and was held in the grounds of the house belonging to Dr Chris Morton.
Ruth Mosley, chairman of the ball’s organising committee, said: “It’s a community thing.
“It’s not just about fundraising it’s also about getting the community together.
We felt it would be nice to give something back to the village.”
