THERE have been numerous sightings of Guy Fawkes in Evesham this week after a competition run by the town’s mayor sparked a good response.

Councillor Robert Raphael asked schools and youth groups in the area to make a guy for the town’s bonfire night celebrations on Monday and he has been busy collecting the creations.

The town bonfire takes place on Monday evening on Corporation Meadow, with gates open at 6.15pm and the bonfire lit an hour later. A James Bond themed fireworks display from Celebration Fireworks will take place from 7.45pm.

Proceeds will go towards the mayor’s charities.

This time last year there were fears that the event would be cancelled in future as it had struggled to cover its costs for several years.

But the event turned out to be great success with about £3,000 raised.

Tickets are available in advance from the Tourist Information Centre at the Almonry Museum, Evesham, priced £3 for adults, £2 for children (five to 16) or they can be bought on the night.
