Crossed wires over mayor's tartan ball?
8:01am Thursday 1st November 2012 in News By Sarah Taylor
THE annual Evesham mayoral ball will be held at the town’s football club despite the venue not currently having permission to host this type of event.
Evesham United Football Club has promised to honour bookings including the Mayor’s Tartan Ball on Friday, November 16, even though the Jubilee Stadium clubhouse at the ground on Cheltenham Road does not have permission to host non-football events.
Wychavon’s planning committee will vote on amending the condition preventing these events at a meeting next Thursday. Jim Cockerton, chairman of the football club, said: “When brought to our attention we have made the application.
“We have been trading as our licence allows us.
“We have been advised to carry on as we are. We had the bookings in. If it gets turned down we go to appeal, which means we can carry on until that decision is made. There is no danger of us having to cancel functions.
We are prepared to honour any legal agreement we have signed.”
Evesham mayor Robert Raphael’s ball will raise funds for his charities Wallace House and Evesham Volunteer Centre. He said: “We didn’t know they were restricted on it at the time.”
The club applied to vary the condition but a decision was deferred by Wychavon planners at a meeting last month as the matter had not been discussed by Evesham Town Council.
On Monday, town council members voted to support the amendment. Coun Alan Booth said: “I think we have to protect the venues in the town centre but we can’t do away with competition.
“It is a brilliant venue and all they are trying to do is make it happen.”
But not all were in support.
Coun Andrew Dyke said: “I think the football club should do what they said they were going to do on existing conditions before they amend other ones.”
Wychavon’s case officer Simon Rees has proposed approval and the authority said it was up to the club to ensure it adhered to the current planning regulations.
Jonathan Edwards, development manager, said: “We will investigate any complaint received relating to an alleged breach of planning regulations.
“If a breach has occurred we will consider whether it is appropriate to carry out enforcement action.”

A chairman who was unaware of what planning permission he had??
Insufficient funds to complete a commercial development??.
Cap in hand to local council??
Blame everybody else for delays??
Change of presentation to ensure financial support??
Sounds like what used to be known as a Whitehall Farce starring Brian Rix but Evesham has had their own version running for the past 13 years and it is still running so book your tickets (pending planning permission) - Oh we dont need planning permission as we do as we please.
Please note that this is not a competition but we thought it would be fun guessing what the above applies to.

As for the council allowing such events until the planning meeting, one has to ask if their insurance is valid. I'd have thought no license - no insurance!

After putting in their planning application that they did not hire the club house out for functions and agreeing to the legal agreemments. one is below
12 The premises shall be used for an association football ground (within Class D2) and for no other purpose, including any other purpose in Class D2 of the Schedule to the Town and Country Planning (Use Classes) Order 1987, or in any provision equivalent to that Class in any statutory instrument revoking and re-enacting that Order with or without modification. Reason - To ensure that the Council has adequate control over the use of the site and any buildings thereon .
it is also strange they forgot the planning application for the public address system they installed and used illegally, or the diversion order for the right of way they keep illegally blocking.
seems to me an if we ignore it then it does not affect us attitude is in place.
I look forwards to the December planting season and the finnishing off of the boundry treatment planting as WDC have said has to be done.
