MORE than 150 cyclists used pedal power to get up close and personal with the glorious autumnal colours of the Worcestershire countryside.

The Bredon Hill Bikeaway, organised by the Pershore Division of St John Ambulance, set off from Pershore College on Sunday.

Divisional vice president Henry Sandon, of Antiques Roadshow fame, got the bikers under way on three routes ranging from eight to 49 miles.

Angela Tidmarsh, secretary of the Pershore Division of St John Ambulance, said: “Grateful thanks to everyone who took part and also to the college for allowing us to use their wonderful facilities and Wychavon District Council for their continuing support.

“Almost 6,000 miles were cycled around three Olympic-styled routes and even though the weather could have been kinder, everyone was in high spirits and seemed to thoroughly enjoy the event.

“We are hopeful that we have raised about £1,000. This money will be spent pursuing our goal of serving the local community.”
