Cash boost for village groups

FUNDING: Celebrating the cash boost.
A NUMBER of groups in Eckington are set to benefit from more than £12,000 in funding.
The money has come from Wychavon District Council’s New Homes Bonus fund and before it was handed over on Friday, the parish council asked all teams and organisations if they needed a share.
The village hall, rec centre, football teams, cricket club, Scouts, WI and Thursday Club were all among the groups to ask for part of the funding and each group will now be able to put it towards a project.
Tracy Perkins, partnership officer at Wychavon, said: “We are confident that the funding will help maintain village traditions and engender community spirit.”
George Glaze, vicechairman of Eckington Parish Council, said: “As a small village we were anxious to maximise any benefits and by submitting an application the benefits would be widely spread within the village.”
