TRAVELLERS could soon be catching buses as well as trains from Moreton railway station.

Cllr Barry Dare, Moreton's representative on Gloucestershire County Council, confirmed there is a proposal for buses to collect and deposit passengers in the station's car park, thus improving the link between bus and train services.

He revealed the council, which is responsible for the county's highways, started considering the proposal about six months ago after health and safety considerations meant buses could no longer stop in the service area at High Street's Budgens store.

Cllr Dare said council highway officers would meet in the next few month to discuss the proposal that would see buses entering and leaving the car park via Station Road, which means visibility would have to be improved at Station Road's junction with the A44 London Road.

He estimated drivers emerging from Station Road could only see about 50 metres down London Road as they looked to the right, when they should be able to see up to 80 metres.

Cllr Dare said buses used to stop in the station's car park before using Budgens' service area.

He said: "This is how it always used to be.

"We didn't have any problems in the past."
