Police probe after body find
GLOUCESTERSHIRE police have launched an investigation after human remains were found on a piece of overgrown private land on the B4063 in Staverton.
A family member of the landowners made the discovery last Saturday afternoon whilst clearing the undergrowth.
He contacted police immediately and they have conducted a detailed forensic examination of the scene over the last few days.
It is clear that the body has been in the location for some years and further work is now underway with the assistance of the Home Office Pathologist and other experts to establish the identity and cause of the death, which is being treated as unexplained. Early assessment of the skeleton suggests that the individual was over the age of 25 and between 5ft 7" and 5ft 11" tall.
The police are also working with the Missing Persons Bureau and making enquiries with the clothing manufacturers of the items the person was wearing at the time of their death.
The coroner has been informed and the remains moved to the mortuary.
