Comic tale of an art gallery guard

A MAN, a messiah and thousands of nipples form the basis for a production at the Everyman Studio Theatre.

Based on a short story by Nick Hornby, Nipplejesus is written from the perspective of a bouncer turned art gallery guard – Dave Freeman – who critics say is sure to become Hornby’s most prodigious character to date.

The 6ft 2”, 15 stone everyman is the central character who, after a couple of nasty moments as a bouncer, decides to take on the more cerebral position of art gallery guard.

Unbeknown to him, he is also about to become a pawn in some contemporary artists’ games of intolerance and retribution.

In this play, Hornby presents an honest, funny and extremely balanced tale of art, religion and pornography.

The show is produced by RoughHouse Theatre and performed by Shane Morgan.

Nipplejesus made its world premiere in Sydney in 2001 and ran for three seasons around New South Wales.

It premiered in England at Bristol’s Tobacco Factory only last year. The show will be performed at the Everyman Studio Theatre from tonight to Saturday.

Tickets cost £7.50, £6 concessions, available from 01242 572573, or online at everymanthe atre.org.uk.
