ALISTAIR McGowan, Evesham’s most famous son, is set to embark on his first solo stand up tour for 10 years.
He’s bringing The One and Many to Malvern Theatres and Cheltenham’s Everyman Theatre in November, but his show goes nationwide next month.
Alistair said: “I’m limbering up by doing smaller venues like the Comedy Store and if feels fantastic. I followed my dream and did four years of drama, but now it feels really good to be back doing comedy again and relating to the audience.
“I am also really inspired by the new up-and-coming comedians.”
Alistair, one of the nation’s best-loved impressionists, was born in Badsey in 1964. He attended Evesham High School, and even now takes a keen interest in the local arts scene as a patron of Pershore’s Number 8 and a campaigner for Evesham cinema.
He said: “I would really love to be playing at The Regal but that seems a long way off.”
Alistair became a national treasure with his TV show Big Impressions, in which he made fun of the rich and famous. The impressionist’s successful transition into TV drama included the role of Mr Kenge in Bleak House and wise cracking detective Gil Mayo.
His stage credits include Shakespearean roles at Stratford and many productions in the West End including The Little Shop of Horrors and Cabaret.
Alistair’s One and Many stand-up show kicks off at the Epsom Theatre Playhouse in July, then goes around the country by train, stopping off at the Edinburgh Festival in August. He said the show would resurrect some of his legendary celebrity impressions and introduce audiences to a host of new characters.
His fans should expect sharp observations, poetry and romance, animals and surrealism, love and anger, wordplay and ‘greenery’ as well as footballers and film stars.
Full details of his local venues will be published in the Journal nearer the time.
