BRASSED OFF will be the name of the show and not the outcome of any visit to the Evesham Arts Centre.

Evesham Operatic and Dramatic Society and the Bretforton Silver Band have joined forces to bring to local audiences a tale of musical triumphs and hopes, all set against a backdrop of colliery closures.

A spokesman said: "It's 1992, Grimley Colliery faces closure and the future of its brass band seems uncertain. With miners torn between redundancy packages and picket lines, band-leader Danny's hopes of winning the national brass band competition seem a distant dream.

"But flugelhorn-playing Gloria brings hope, romance and controversy to the Yorkshire brass band on the brink of collapse."

The spokesman added: "Bretforton Silver Band joins EODS in a spectacular staging of this emotional, funny and unique theatrical experience - guaranteed to be one you will remember for years."

The show has been adapted by Paul Allen for the stage, and it is based on the screenplay by Mark Herman from the smash-hit film featuring Tara Fitzgerald, Ewan McGregor and Pete Postlethwaite.

This Production is by by special arrangement with Samuel French Inc.

The run will take place from Thursday May 18 to Saturday May 20.
