THE barn of the Fleece Inn at Bretforton will be transformed into a Forties-style tea dance tonight for the staging of new play about courage, bravery and swing dancing during the Second World War.
Based on real events "Think of England" is set in the summer of 1943 when Bett and Vera travel the country hosting tea dances for RAF fighter pilots. But what the locals don’t know is that the dance is a cover for the girls’ real purpose – to send the men off to fight having experienced all of life’s pleasures.
Just like the women on whom the show is based, theatre group AIAWTC will be travelling the country boosting morale with this heart-warming knee’s up. The audience will be invited to drink, dance, and raise a glass to good King George while watching the drama unfold. This is a theatre show with a tea dance theme based on a surprising but little known story from the war, with cake, wartime songs and a little dancing. The tea and cake will be supplied and the audience is encouraged to dig out their tea dresses and waistcoats and to dress up in style
