A DOZEN or so local teenagers are set to make a debut appearance on one of the small stage performance areas at The Royal Shakespeare Theatre in Stratford.

Last year The Festival Players, with Eric Jones directing, put on an evening of monologues, some from Shakespeare, and from other writers, with songs and comedy, and this toured five villages in the Evesham area.

Mr Jones said: "This summer the same group with a few extras, and minus a couple who are away are presenting a similar evening, just a one-off this year, on the evening of Tuesday, July 19, in one of the performance areas of The Other Place, in Waterside, Stratford.

"It's a chance to tread the boards in Stratford no less"

Mr Jones has been rehearsing this group for "just about three weeks", to get ready for their performances of monologues and songs.

He said: “Taking a small group, rehearsing them individually or in small groups means we can put together a complete evening in less than a month. Some have just finished exams, or come back from university after their first year, and a few more are adults keen to take part.”

This production, called An Audience With Words, includes excerpts from ten Shakespeare plays plus some Oscar Wilde, Brecht and others, and even including some dialogue from a modern Video Game, Portal 2.
