WILD Willy Barrett and friends will be back at the Evesham Arts Centre "with a quirky mix of French, Irish and English music and dry humour".

The date will be June 11, from 7.30pm.

A spokesman said: "Get ready for a fresh and different evenings' entertainment.

"From a cafe in Paris, via a hoolie in Dublin, to a night out in New Orleans with rip-roaring fiddle and banjo, this band does it all. This is a fabulous show suitable for all ages, directed by the inimitable Wild Willy Barrett.

"Charismatic French singer Aurora Colson takes centre stage, captivating audiences with her compelling and expressive vocals as she effortlessly tackles a wide range of styles: from Bluegrass to acoustic blues, with haunting Irish melodies and a touch of Piaf thrown into the mix."

At the heart of the ensemble are the indisputable talents of multi-instrumentalist Wild Willy Barrett, cellist Mary Holland and Irish pipes and whistle player John Devine, "whose outstanding musicianship was rewarded by an invitation to play in the presence of The Queen at Buckingham Palace".

The spokesman added: "The group’s innovative arrangements are beautifully performed on instruments including the guitar, cello, fiddle, banjo and uilleann pipes, all overlaid with a large dose of wry humour.

"Something of a musical prodigy, having learnt to play the ukelele at the age of four, Willy Barrett describes himself as 'an experimental multi-instrumentalist'."

Best known for his 'outlandish partnership' with John Otway, it's the gentler side of Wild that has emerged during his collaboration with this acoustic quartet.

He said:"Having worked with Mary and John for more than ten years, I am delighted to be able to add French to the Irish and English mix. It has given us the chance to work on some interesting new arrangements, utilising the full range of instruments at our disposal to their full advantage, testing their scope to the limit. It has definitely widened our horizons."
