Flights of fantasy

HALF-term in Shakespeare country is packed with fun and inspired activities for all ages.

From life-size Star Wars and Dr Who characters to plane rides, children can fill the holidays with lots of exciting and informative things to do.

An award-winning performance by the Royal Shakespeare Company takes place at The Courtyard Theatre in Stratford. King Lear runs until August.

Youngsters can also find out how their counterparts lived and entertained themselves in the Tudor period at Hall’s Croft, the Jacobean Doctor’s house from 11am to 4pm on Tuesday and Wednesday, February 16 and 17.

The Explorer’s Jungle Club at the Stratford Butterfly Farm gives children the chance to learn more about some creepy crawlies, taking the ‘hands-on’ experience to the edge.

From 11.30am to 2.30pm every day, children can get face-to-face with giant stick insects, giant millipedes and giant African snails.

From February 21, Who Wars at the Heritage Motor Centre will feature life-size characters from the Star Wars and Dr Who universes in among the centre’s collection of historic cars.

Fans have their photo taken with their favourite characters, as well as buy exclusive souvenirs.

If all this sounds too down to earth, then escape into the air with a scenic flight over Stratford with the Avon Air Centre.

Children over six can fly for free if accompanied by an adult. A 20-minute flight costs £49 during half-term week.
