AN Evesham-based architect is offering homeowners the chance to add value to their home while raising funds for charity.
Paul Durrell, a chartered architect based on the Vale Business Park, is taking part in Architect in the House scheme, a partnership between the Royal Institute of British Architects and the charity Shelter.
The scheme aims to give people across the county the chance to book an hour-long consultation with an architect to discuss anything from a loft conversion to major renovation work.
In return, homeowners will be asked to make a minimum of a £40 donation to Shelter, which helps those whose lives have been made a misery by poor housing.
Mr Durrell said: “Whether you’ve been considering an improvement to your home but haven’t looked into it, or have just never thought of using an architect, then this is the scheme for you.
“It offers a first step towards making a positive change to your home, while helping less fortunate families trapped in bad housing to find and keep a home of their own.”
With nearly two million families waiting for social housing, and a chronic lack of affordable homes to rent, Shelter’s services are expected to be stretched to the limit, especially as mortgage lenders predict that 75,000 homes will be repossessed by the end of the year.
The Architect in the House scheme is in its 13th year and has raised more than £800,000.
