FORTIS Living, Worcestershire's largest social housing provider, has pledged its commitment to encourage more women into trade jobs, following the success of an inaugural event last month.

Fortis Property Care – a subsidiary of Fortis Living - ran its first Try a Trade day at the end of March.

More than 30 women attended the event that took place at The Building Block, Worcester Community Hub on Shap Drive in Worcester. It offered those in attendance the chance to learn a whole range of skills, including plumbing, carpentry, electrics and painting and decorating.

Bill Tebay, managing director at Fortis Property Care said: “This was a fabulous event which proved to be a real success for all the women who attended. Such was its impact that we have decided to hold similar events on a regular basis, as a long term initiative it will be beneficial in addressing gender imbalances in parts of our business, help with skills levels as well as the employability of local residents. We are dedicated to promoting greater diversity and inclusion within our business.”

The next free event, The Gender Equality Conference, is taking place on May 8 at University of Worcester Arena, from 9am to 4pm.
