A WORCESTER fine jewellery business has won a prestigious national Heart of Gold community award.

Anja Potze, a retailer of fine diamond and pearl jewellery in Worcester, has been named as the UK’s best community-focused small business at the inaugural Small Awards.

The Heart of Gold award recognises small businesses that contribute a bit extra to their local community, working with other small businesses, local charities, schools, councils or local residents to achieve things in the community.

Anja Potze founded her fine jewellery business, which specialises in jewellery made from certified diamonds and the Tahitian, South Sea and cultured pearls, in 1994.

She had previously worked for a small number of high-end jewellers, including five years with London based Asprey and Garrard Group, where her customers included the late Baroness Thatcher.

The currently business is based in Friar Street, and offers a bespoke service.

The owner collected her company’s award at a glittering black tie Ceremony held in London hosted by television personality, Sue Perkins.

In their citation, the judges said: “Anja Potze delivers a huge breadth of activity over and above what is required of the business and stands out as a tour de force in its community.

"Always looking for new ways to support, Anja herself is consistently looking for new ways to deliver her heart of gold.”

Speaking after collecting the award, Anja said: “I’m absolutely thrilled and grateful to my team who support me in all my work. It’s been a brilliant evening.”

The Small Awards recognise the achievements of small businesses in 10 categories across multiple sectors and areas of activity, including high street businesses, family businesses, start-ups and business-to-business companies.
