A FAMILY member’s battle with a terminal lung condition prompted six colleagues from a Worcestershire accountancy practice to tackle the Three Peaks Challenge.

Doug Marshall and Graeme Pardoe, senior account managers at Ormerod Rutter Chartered Accountants in Droitwich, teamed up with four team members who came through the firm’s apprenticeship scheme – Daniel Poxon, Will Phillips, Matt Collett and Matt Wheatcroft.

The 24-hour fundraising trek saw the team tackle the summits of Ben Nevis in the Scottish Highlands, Scafell Pike in the Lake District and Snowdon in North Wales – a combined height of more than 11,000 feet.

But all didn’t all go smoothly as Mr Pardoe had to have his knee strapped, following a fall on Scotland’s highest peak.

Mr Marshall said: “We decided to raise money for the British Lung Foundation (BLF) as my father-in-law has Idiopathic Pulmonary Fibrosis and is on the waiting list for a lung transplant.

“It was the hardest physical challenge we’ve ever done."

The team impressively managed to raise £3,000 for the charity, and its work improving the care of people suffering lung diseases as well as the work to prevent, treat and cure lung diseases.
