A WORCESTER technology company invited local computer students along to share baguettes and buns and see how it works.

Postcode Anywhere, which is based in Diglis, welcomed members of Pershore High School and Worcester Sixth Form College to its Waterside headquarters to help them get a feel for how a technology company works and highlight employment opportunities that may be open for them in the future.

The company's chief executive Guy Mucklow said: “The future success of the UK economy is now, more than ever, dependent on our ability to produce and encourage technically gifted students. Technology is transforming the way that we live and work, and, along with those changes are incredible opportunities which if we don’t take up in the UK, will go elsewhere.

“I’m delighted to have some of our local students visit Postcode Anywhere and am hoping that it will give them a taste for some of the skills that a business like ours is looking for as well as to inspire them to make the most of the opportunities that exist in our sector.”

Also Included in the itinerary was a fun ice breaker quiz. Students were given definitions of a range of famous entrepreneurs many of whom made their fortunes in technology.

Jo McFarlane, teacher of computing at Worcester Sixth Form College added: “The event was an excellent opportunity for our students to learn about a technology company and to experience software development in a professional environment. It provided a clear link between the skills they learn in college and those that employers are seeking. The evening was a great success and was thoroughly enjoyed by all who attended.”
