100 Years Ago October 26, 1907 A CHURCH Army Mission has been held in Condicote during the past three weeks. The services were held in the schoolroom. The van came on September 27 in charge of Capt Welch and Bro Mitchell. On October 10, they were joined by Bro Pritchard, of the Bristol Mission. On Sunday, October 6, a special service for men was held and a united children's service. On alternate nights, lantern services were held: Six addresses on the work of our Lord, a lecture on church army work, the evils of gambling, or a Warwickshire boy's adventure, and the torn bible. On the other evening a mission service was held. On Wednesday, October 9, the missioners were at home' to all who cared to visit the van. The mission closed on Thursday, the van going to Todenham.

75 Years Ago October 22, 1932 DISCUSSION regarding the expenditure at the sewage outfall works took up the greater part of the time of Moreton-in-Marsh Parish Council on Tuesday. Mr L E Horne said there was no doubt that a lot of the trenches had been cut and deepened, which was absolutely necessary, and the sewage matter seemed to be under control at present. He said he was still not satisfied that money had not been wasted inasmuch as the amount expended for the year ending March 31, 1932, £239 13s 6d, seemed a great sum for the amount of work carried out. Mr C J Hull said the reason for the heavy expense was that the works had been badly neglected for some considerable time past and the work done was absolutely necessary as the condition 12 months ago was deplorable.

50 Years Ago October 25, 1957 AT the monthly meeting of Stow-on-the-Wold Parish Council, a letter was received from the North Cotswold R D C stating it proposed to take no action regarding the concrete vent pipe it erected at Wraggs Row. The parish council felt the 20ft high pipe, erected in connection with the new sewerage scheme, was detrimental to adjoining property and should be moved to the other side of the road. The R D C stated the vent pipe was less objectionable in its present position, where it was screened by trees, than it would be on the other side of the road. However, if the colour of the pipe did not weather down to harmonise with its surroundings, consideration would be given to having the pipe painted a suitable colour.
